SOMMER, an authentic success story which starts with Alfred SOMMER in 1880.

| • 1925 : LE BALATUM |
Creation of BALATUM by Balatum S.A., specialised in the manufacture and sale of wallpaper and low-cost floors.
|

| • 1965 |
Merger with Balamundi Production, manufacturer of tufted carpets.
With the arrival of new technology and powerful competitors, the board decide to create new PVC and textile floor coverings therefore a workshop to manufacture tufted carpets is set up in Baisieux before being transferred to the BALAMO factory near Tournai.
Fortunately for Baisieux, the board decide to launch a new textile fibre carpet: the needlepuched carpet, already developed in the SOMMER factory in Sedan. Thanks to this the Baisieux factory remains operational after the end of BALATUM. |

| • 1968 |
The company becomes Balamundi France, a group with 17 manufacturing plants located in a dozen countries throughout the world. |

| • 1976 |
Bought back by the group SOMMER ALLIBERT, in 1980 the company becomes an "International flooring company". |

| • 1997 |
The group Sommer Allibert takes over the manufacture of floor coverings for Tarkett and the two groups are merged , creating Tarkett SOMMER SAS which then becomes Tarkett SAS in 2003. |

Wishing to concentrate solely on its core activity - hard flooring - Tarkett sells its needlepunching business to the De Saedeleir Group, a specialist in non woven industrial fibres. SOMMER Needlepunch®, a brand which respects the tradition of quality and professionalism of SOMMER continues to offer more design, more innovation, better service and better proximity. |
